Use a biological percolate filter to eliminate nitrates and nitrites from the water. I recommend a pressurized back-flushable filter, not a gravity flow.

Waterfall filtration is a must. I would recommend putting all the water in the waterfall across a filter every hour. This means if you’ve a 200 gallon waterfall next you need a pump that’ll move 200 Galons Per Hour.
