UV Lamps are Also the Filamentous Algae’s Allies.

In a pond, there are basically two kinds of algae: the Filamentous or “Thread” Algae which fishes like to eat every now and then, and the pernicious “Floating” Algae that “eats up” a lot of your pond water’s nutrients, grows in massive quantities, and causes your pond water to “turn” green. Ultraviolet (UV) lights are used to “kill” these floating algae, resulting in “less greener” (if not clearer) waters and also giving the thread algae the needed sunlight and nutrients, and hence, their opportunity to grow.
